Job Description
Responsibilities*
- Student guards will patrol, observe, and report occurrences in and about the campus, via portable radio unit, to the Communications Officer. Including any criminal damage or activity found in their area of assignment, such as: broken windows, damaged furniture, or any other vandalized or damaged University property.
- Prepare daily logs.
- Uphold all federal, state, and local laws in addition to University rules and regulations in all areas of University jurisdictions.
- Initiate and submit reports.
- Assist in the orderly evacuation of residence halls and university buildings, in the event of a fire and/or fire alarm or other emergency when requested by campus security officers.
- Assist students, Residential Life staff, Campus Security Officers, and Emergency Medical personnel in emergencies when appropriate or helpful.
- Promote and provide safeguard services to the campus community.
- Make frequent fire prevention checks which include: checking fire alarm pull boxes and fire extinguishers, reporting missing or burnt-out exit signs, missing fire extinguishers, and all unsafe conditions.
Required Qualifications*
- Applicant must be a current registered student at a college/university- open to students outside of UM-Flint.
- Applicants must have valid driver's license.
- No arrests or convictions.
Desired Qualifications*
- Work study is desired but not required.
- Good communication skills.
Additional Information
All members of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
